Winter Sports Registration for High School Student-Athletes

The Pennfield High School winter sports season in just around the corner as the calendar moves closer to November.  The athletic department has announced the winter sports registration period will begin on November 1st and continue through the first day of practices for the various winter teams.  Pennfield High School offers a variety of winter athletic opportunities including girls basketball (freshman, JV and varsity), boys basketball (freshman, JV and varsity), competitive cheer (JV and varsity), boys bowling (JV and varsity), girls bowling (JV and varsity), wrestling (JV and varsity) and co-op boys swimming at Battle Creek Central. All high school students who would like to participate in winter sports must obtain a winter sports registration card and bring it to the coach on the first day of practice and/or tryouts.  To complete the winter sports registration process each student-athlete must have the following items on file with the athletic office:

All Pennfield students planning to participate in athletics in the 2021-22 school year will need a new physical before August 1, 2021.  Any physical that was done prior to April 15, 2021 will become invalid for MHSAA athletic activities on July 31, 2021. Your son or daughter’s doctor can complete a MHSAA sports physical during a well child visit.  MHSAA sport physicals are also available at the following locations:   Battle Creek Central Student Health Clinic located in the high school at 100 W Van Buren Street is open from 7:30am-3:30pm Monday thru Friday all summer.  The cost of a MHSAA sports physical is $30 with a sliding scale based on your insurance provider. Call 269-965-9539 for an appointment. Olivet has gone to digital ticketing for the 2021-22 school year and will not accept cash purchases at the gate.  Spectators will need to go to:  https://gofan.co/app/school/MI3421 and find the Olivet Eagles vs Pennfield Panthers varsity football game scheduled on Friday, October 22nd to purchase tickets.  Once you purchase your tickets you will be able to view them on your smartphone device by using the GoFan mobile app or by visiting GoFan.com on your web browser.  GoFan tickets are “Mobile Only,” which means fans will need to present your tickets on a smartphone for redemption at the gate to enter this event.  Please do not print off tickets. Middle School Volleyball and Cross Country Schedule Change

With the half day schedule due to the heat index again today (Aug 26) we are moving the official start date of middle school volleyball and cross country practice to Monday, August 30th.   Cross Country will practice at 2:45-4:15pm. 8th grade volleyball tryouts will be from 5:00-6:30pm. 7th grade volleyball tryouts will be from 6:30-8:00pm. Middle School Fall Sports Begin August 30th

The Pennfield Middle School fall sports season will begin on Monday, August 30th after school.  The co-ed cross country team which is open to all students grades 6-8 will meet for their first practice from 2:45-4:15pm.  The 8th grade volleyball team tryouts will run from 5-6:30pm and 7th grade volleyball team tryouts will be from 6:30-8pm.  Tryouts for the volleyball teams will run from August 30th-September 1st. PHS Cross Country Team Barney Roy Invite @ Turkeyville

Tuesday, August 31st the PHS Cross Country Team ran in their 3rd meet of the season at the Barney Roy Invite at Cornwell's Turkeyville. Everyone who ran set their season record best by at least a minute or two. The top performing boys were Levi Harris and Davis Kelly with times of 20:23 and 20:44. The top girls were Emily Plante and Cecelia Bronson with times of 24:49 and 27:09. The team gets a little break from racing and will race again September 9th at Gilmore Car Museum. Trent Garrison still attended a day after his accident. I was AMAZED and proud of the team's response to him. They showed empathy and support, it was a great moment to witness their reaction of support. Article by Coach Polnasek

The Pennfield High School cross country team finished their season Saturday, October 30th at the Regional meet in Portage. Davis Kelly and Cece Bronson both finished with personal record times. Elijah Fox finished first among the Pennfield boys team and Emily Plante finished first for the Pennfield girls team. Pennfield competed in the final league meet, the I8 league championship on Saturday at Turkeyville. 11 runners competed for Pennfield, all of them improved their times. 8 of them set their all-time personal best times. All five boys set their best time. Congrats to Levi, Elijah, Zach, William, and Hunter. Levi Harris and Elijah Fox improved their times by about 50 seconds each, getting in the 19 minute range. Emily Plante, Allie Ferrall, and Sophie Klemm were the fastest Pennfield girls. Great performances by Cece, Anna, and Ariana as well. Pennfield competed at the Sturgis Invitational on Saturday the 16th. Five runners set a new personal best including William Hall, Zach Herbstreith, Cece Bronson, Anna Grue, and Ariana Taylor. Trent Garrison set a season best finishing in 21:19. Both the girls and boys team finished 11th out of 17 total schools. The Pennfield High School cross country team competed at the Calhoun County Cross Country Meet on Saturday, October 9th at Riverside Park. Four runners set an all-time "Personal Best" time. Those runners are Zach Herbstreith, Levi Harris, Cecelia Bronson, and Allie Ferrall. Levi finished 28th in the county. Emily Plante finished 24th in the county. The boys played strong in the first round of the silver bracket for the I-8 tournament. Alex Comai moved from center back to forward to score 2 goals! Gilem Sendin also added two goals. Justin Fourn and William Hewitt added and assist each and Pepo Rodriguez Gonzalez added another. Kyle Thomas had 9 saves in the win. Pennfield ran in their second league meet of the season on Tuesday, October 5th at Hastings Charlton Park. The course was hilly and challenging but overall effort was great from the team. Levi Harris was the fastest Pennfield boy running in 20:13 with a place of 36th overall. Emily Plante has consistently been the fastest Pennfield girl all season. Sophie Klemm and Cece Bronson are making excellent progress so far. The boys team welcomed back Trent Garrison from injury. He finished his first race since August 28th. PHS Cross Country @ All-City Pennfield competed in the All-City meet which included five schools on Tuesday, September 28 at Harper Creek HS. The girls team finished 4th out of five schools and the boys finished 3rd out of five schools. The boys team beat St. Philip for the first time since 2015 at All-City. Elijah Fox was the fastest Pennfield boy, finishing in a PR time of 20:26 and 23rd overall. Hunter Jenney set a PR with a time of 21:53. In a tale of two days, the panthers played incredibly the original day of this game. We played almost all of the first half, played nearly perfect soccer and scored twice taking a two goal lead into a rain postponement. In the make up day lumen came out wanting the ball and we were asleep. Luckily we fought out a win. William Hewitt and Gilem Sendin scored in the first day with Hunter Shive adding an assist. Pennfield vs Lakeview @ All City Connor Vogel led the team with a great performance in goal. He had 11 big saves. The team concentrated on defense and held Lakeview 0-2 at half. Led by senior captains Justin Fourn, Alex Comai, and Gabe Whitehead the defense made Lakeview work for everything they got. In the second half Lakeview added to their score and finished with 5 on the day. Pennfield vs Harper Creek @ All City In an end to end domination the boys won the possession and scoring battle. Justin Fourn, Alex Comai, Kyle Smith, Connor Vogel, Kyle Thomas, and Kadyn Hill all scored goals. Gilem Sendin had three assists, Alex Fourn had two, Hunter Shive, Kyle smith, and Nathan Grennes all added single assists. The panthers fought off Parma in the first half holding them to 0-2 score. After injuries in the second half took the goalie and three starters out of the game we couldn’t hold them off anymore. The boys played a great game and I hope they can continue this new found pressure they are playing with. Connor Vogel led the way with 11 big saves. 8/28 Harper Creek Optimist Invite Recap The Pennfield Cross Country team ran in their 2nd meet at the Harper Creek Optimist Invite. Jamboree #1 The girls competed in our first league meet of the season on Tuesday, September 14th at Parma Western HS. They finished 7th overall coming very close to beating two other teams. The boys race was canceled after a mile and a half due to rain, lightning, and thunder. The team will compete in a dual meet against Harper Creek on Friday night.
